About Us


Mission
To make good oral health attainable and affordable to any member of our community by providing consumer advocacy, oral health education and preventive dental services in order to achieve and sustain healthy people and healthy communities.


History
  • 2003—Registered dental hygienists, Kate Mills and Nan Bucklin-Hawkes, form Washington State Smile Partners (WSSP) and provide dental care to children in 4 elementary schools in King and Kitsap counties and Federal Way.
  • 2004—WSSP achieves non-profit status and expands its in-school program to 10 elementary schools in Kitsap County, Federal Way, and Seattle. It begins serving preschools in King County, including 21 Head Start and ECEAP classrooms.
  • 2005—WSSP adds 2 Seattle elementary schools and expands preschool service to 19 Head Start and ECEAP classrooms in Kitsap County. It starts a new pilot program for adults at Helpline House on Bainbridge Island.
  • 2006—WSSP adds 2 elementary schools in Federal Way.
  • 2007—WSSP adds 2 elementary schools in Federal Way and begins extending services to seniors on Bainbridge Island through its Smiles for Life program. It also starts Smart Smiles, a 2-year multi-county elementary school pilot program.
  • 2008—WSSP launches Mom and Me Cavity Free, a program for pregnant women and babies at Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale.

Recent Grants

We are grateful for the support we have received from the following:
  • National Children's Oral Health Foundation(NCOHF)—Provided a grant in 2007 to fund Mom and Me Cavity Free
  • Group Health Community Access for Children Grant—Provided a grant in 2007 to fund Project Smart Smiles
  • City of Bainbridge Island, Health Housing and Human Services(HHHS)—Provided a grant in 2007 to fund Smiles for Life
  • One Call for All—Provided a grant in 2007 to fund Smiles for Life


Future Programs

Washington State Smile Partners has only begun to address the need for dental care in our community. Our goal is to partner with other health professionals, businesses and community agencies to solidify and expand our current programs.
